SMC uses "agimat" to clean Banahaw
The SMART Mountaineering Club is now using and "agimat" to save the environment.
This "agimat" is not one from mythical creatures. In fact, it's quite scientific and is practical tool that could help preserve the environment
"Agimat stands for A Garbage Inventory Management Assessment Tool. It's a tool for classifying the waste collected in a given area. By doing this, we get to know the human activity in the area that resulted in the dumping of the collected waste. Then, we can make recommendations to authorities on what environmental policies may be needed to be drafted," explained senior manager for Community Partnerships Darwin Flores.
During a recent climb to the mystic mountain of Banahaw 23 SMC members and 17 SMARTees from different departments, together with the Protected Area Management Board and the Luntiang Alyansa para sa Bundok Banahaw, put the agimat to a test. The cleanup was help at the Kalbaryo, San Bernardo and Sta. Lucia areas of Mt. Banahaw. All three are part of the mountain's protected areas.
"SMC sees to it that we have an annual cleanup activity. This year was more exciting because we were able to try the agimat. It's a new tool to all of us. We hope to share this tool with other mountaineering groups for their cleanup activities." said SMC's Jing Talesio.
At the end of the whole day activity, SMC members and SMARTees were able to gather almost 70 kilos of waste composed of plastic bags and bottles, wrappers, tin cans, among others.
"We at SMC are really lucky and grateful because SMART is really serious in helping our environment. As mountaineers, we are keen on doing what we can to preserve the environment, and we are happy that we can partner with SMART in doing this." she added.

unang plano, mag-simba ng 6-7am tapos pumunta ng Club Manila East sa Taytay, Rizal. ako, tumakbo sa Airspeed Run sa MOA ng 5:30am at sumunod nalang sa CME.
nauna na sila. pero halos magkasunod lang kami. pagdating nila sa CME, daming tao. super! pang 700 something daw kami sa pila. huwaaaat?! :) at nasa Manila East Road na ko nun.
plan B. umalis at maghanap ng iba. new plan: Splash Mountain sa Los Banos, Laguna.

na-souprice naman daw si Apol, sobra. humabol nalang kami after the game. an afternoon of great food and wine, The Corteses and friends = isang magandang hapon.
things I learned that afternoon:
the secret behind Miguel's name
cheese intake is needed in between different wines
Apol turns ## already
we feel old when we are in the presence of younger people
we feel young at the same time.. hehe
having a baby changes your life in so many ways

we were in Kalibo, Aklan for the 2009 Ati-atihan Festival and in between our itineraries, habang naghihintay... Jenga muna! mga kuha sa Glowmoon Hotel at sa Kalibo Airport.

binitawan na siya ng community namin. ngayon si Teacher Cathy nalang ang nag-aasikaso at patuloy na lumalaban sa karapatan ng mga batang ito na makapag-aral kahit sa maliit na tuition fee lamang.
nakakalungkot. ngayon kami'y hinahamon ng panahon, susuportahan ba namin ang paaralan at ang mga batang ito o patuloy kaming magbubulagbulagan.. |

Posted by Renz on Nov 17, '08 7:58 PM for everyone | | it all started with a 10k run one sunday last year.. and now running has become a part of me..the longest i had was 21k in the Milo Race in Legaspi, also last year. pinilit lang. binuyo.
i never dreamed of running a marathon, pero parang dun na papunta... i had my 15k last last week.. and now i just finished a 25k! woohooo! that's more than a half-marathon!
